Hope this email finds everyone rested and relaxed from the Thanksgiving break (not to mention free from the flu). It is always good to spend quality time with those you love. We just have three short weeks until the Christmas holidays. All students will be taking finals the three days before the break (Dec. 17-19). Please do not take your child out of school during this time. It is extremely important for them to be present for their exams. Semester finals will be cumulative. December 19th will be an early release day.
Basketball season is in full swing and district play is just around the corner. Students playing basketball are about to enter into tournament play which pulls them out of school quite a bit. Please encourage your athlete to go by and talk with the teachers about assignments that they may miss.
We took benchmarks before the Thanksgiving break. These test will determine students in need of additional assistance for state testing. Some students will be assigned to tutorials while others will be moved at semester into an intervention class. These will be mandatory for any student placed in the class or the tutorials. If they are moved into an intervention class, we will replace one of their current elective classes. The benchmark is only one of the items we will use to determine placement. We will also use reading levels, cycle grades, unit assessments and teacher recommendations. You will receive a letter in the mail if your child is tagged for intervention. These letters will be sent out in January.
