Amazing things are happening at CHS this year. Our varsity football team just received the Jinx Tucker award. The Waco Tribune doles out the honor at the end of each football season. It is given to a program that shows team success, improvement throughout the season, sportsmanship, fan support and a will to win in the face of adversity. Clifton has won the award two other times, once in 1963 and once in 1967. The boys and coaches will be honored at halftime of one of our upcoming home basketball games. I will keep you posted on that event. There is a great article in Friday's addition of the Waco Tribune-Herald. Like I always say, "It's Great to be a Cub!"
Report cards need to be signed and returned on Monday. You should have received a student report card as well as a school report from your child. Some students had an additional letter discussing placement in an enrichment class for state testing.
Jr. and Senior Parents: We will be hosting a financial aide meeting on Monday, Jan. 26th, in the high school library at 6:30 pm. Please make every effort to attend this meeting if your child is going or thinking about going to college. There will be a financial aide specialist here to discuss timelines and opportunities for financial assistance. Our counselors will also be there to set up times to assist you in the FASFA process and help you in this transition. We are here to help and are ready to set up one-on-one meetings to walk you through the red tape.
We have been working diligently to complete the seventh semester transcripts for all seniors. These are now complete and will be accessible for us to send to the colleges of the student's choice.
We have also completed GPA's for sophomores, juniors and seniors. We will pass the qualifying students name to our NHS committee for consideration into the program. Due to this process, we will need to reschedule the NHS ceremony for February 12th at 6:30. Students who qualify for the GPA portion of NHS must also meet the other requirements of leadership, character and service. They will have to write an essay that explains why they meet these qualifications. They will then interview with the NHS committee. If you have any questions about this process, it is explained in the handbook. If you still have questions, feel free to give me a call.
UIL academics is now recruiting for participation in our events. Students have the opportunity to compete all the way to the state level. There are scholarships available for college based on participation in these events. UIL academics also looks good on a resume or application for colleges and scholarships. Students may also earn academic letter jackets for reaching the regional level in academics. Encourage your child to get involved this spring.
